The Call: Announcing Elul

Sunday, September 1st, 2019
at 6:30 pm

Beach. Gong. Shofar.
Soundbath.

During the Hebrew month of Elul, the month preceding the High Holidays, we cultivate an awareness of our actual circumstances, the dust that we will return to, the fragility and impermanence of our life.

If we succeed in awakening to our lives we see clearly how every moment of our lives, every breath, every thought, is only a passing shadow, a fugitive cloud, a fleeting breeze, a vanishing dream.

This being the case, how do we acquire a toehold in this world sufficient to do Teshuvah (Return)?

Open Your Temple Soundbath is a ritual for Elul to listen to the stories and sounds from Within, from Beyond and Return Again.

If God is already tired, as suggests the Psalm, of hearing the old song, all the more so will ordinary mortals be. -Alcalay (20th c. Jewish lexicographer)
