Tu b’Av, the 15th Day of the month of Av, is the Jewish Midsummer’s Night. In rabbinic literature, the rabbis write about rituals around fertility, sexuality and the power of intimacy. Open Temple celebrates Midsummer’s Night, Tu b’Av, with a night of Sensual Awakening. As Tu b’Av falls on Shabbat this year, it’s an extra mitzvah to “Get Shtupped.”

Get Shtupped Shabbat invites individuals to engage in new forms of intimacy – from olfactory prompts to sound baths, exercises in holding to soul gazing. Everyone is invited into each prompt as well as a recognized held space for those who opt out.

-Psalm 96

If God is already tired, as suggests the Psalm, of hearing the old song, all the more so will ordinary mortals be.
