Spiritual but not Religious? Looking for a Spiritual Jewish community? Open Temple reclaims spirituality as a cornerstone of Jewish Expression and is the newest form of Spiritual Judaism that is trendsetting across the Jewish world. Jewish Spirituality comes in may forms: Is your Jewish Spirituality contemplative (more introspective) or is your Jewish Spirituality more ecstatic (more extroverted)? Are your a meditator or ecstatic dancer? The trend today is for Jewish Spiritual communities to reclaim and re-brand Spiritual Judaism, and integrate Judaism into yoga, meditation, sound baths and more. However, what is an authentic expression of Contemporary Jewish Spiritual Life? Open Temple re-imagines and re-enchants Jewish Spirituality through its commitment to Love, Truth and Creativity. Our services, located in a black box theatre, incorporate concepts of the Spiritual Jewish life – we are as open to expressions through digital media as we are meditation. Our school is a Spiritual Jewish approach to Hebrew school – our students study Spiritual Judaism through the modern lens of the arts.

Our Spiritual Jewish approach engages students in modern Spiritual Jewish ideas through dance, theater, music, art, weaving and more expressions of Spiritual Judaism and the arts. Our women’s groups are a Spiritual Jewish take on traditional Jewish ideas. We have a once a month Rosh Hodesh group where women can explore their Spiritual Jewish identity through community, creativity and a shared meal. The counterpart to this Spiritual Jewish spin on female community is our men’s group, which meets at Open Temple house monthly and encourages our community of men to find their Spiritual Jewish voices outside of what tradition has told men to be. Spiritual Judaism lends itself to new ways of seeing, and Open Temple creates that path to Spiritual Jewish experiences through music, creative gatherings, Shabbat dinners that open the mind and a constant search for Radical Amazement. Spiritual Judaism has to find its way into every expression of our Jewish lives – from how we treat one another to what kind of experiences fuel a Jewish Spiritual Journey.

Our band converts traditional Jewish songs into new Spiritual Jewish expressions, employing Kirtan and chanting, and we are known to “mash up” traditional Jewish music and convert them into Modern Jewish classics through reworking them into Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Madonna, Motown and more. This modern and spiritual Jewish expression of Judaism invites the participant into a form of Jewish spirituality that is fresh, fun and uniquely modern in its application of spiritual Jewish ideas and thought for a spiritual Jewish appeal.

Our approach also possesses many new takes on tradition; the result is a fresh and spiritual Jewish look at the world around us. Open Temple’s application of Spiritual Jewish ideas creates a Spiritual Jewish experience that is contemporary, fun, and accessible for all who identify as a Modern, Spiritual Jewish Jew.
