Enchanting Summer Theater Camp in Venice Beach, CA
Venice, CA is known for its skatepark, beaches and culture. Now it is known for its Electric (Theater!) Camp. At Electric Lodge, a performing arts center with black box theater and dance studio, campers will engage in dance, theatre, writing, sound and light production. Campers will create a unique piece of art.

Theatre Camp is personal and fun. Campers from a diverse background come together to find their unique voices. Covid impacted our students and made them feel isolated. The masks literally muted their voices. Electric Camp invites campers to reflect upon the past two years and create an understanding of the world around them as campers coalesce in creative community.
All instructors are vaccinated. Weekly rapid tests are available for campers.

Electric Lodge is a Venice institution, offering a dynamic calendar of theater, dance and music performances alongside classes for kids and adults. Open Temple has been bringing creative Judaism to Venice for over 5 years, with thousands of people attending Shabbat, High Holiday and other events throughout the year, and dozens of families participating in Creative Torah Academy–an extraordinary Hebrew school culminating in unique B Mitzvah rituals. This year, for the first time, Electric Lodge and Open Temple are joining forces to introduce Los Angeles’s first Jewish Theater summer camp.
Camp will run for 2 weeks, with two 1-week sessions inviting kids of all ages to participate in theater and movement activities incorporating the Jewish values of creativity, community and compassion. Camp will take place in Electric Lodge’s professional theater and dance studio, with lunch and outdoor time on the Open Temple campus, located just across the parking lot.
After two years of intermittent lockdowns and quarantines, masking in classrooms and limited social activities, this camp will give kids the chance to express themselves. In the first session campers will collaborate to develop their own theater piece. The second session will focus on an adaptation of a classic musical. Each session will culminate in a performance for friends and family.
Sample Day
• 8-50-9:10: Campers arrive, sign in, assemble in the theater
• 9:10-10:30: Warm-up and theater games
• 10:30-10:45: Snack break outside (snacks provided or campers can bring their own)
• 10:45-12:15: Movement/Improv activities in dance studio
• 12:15-1:15: Lunch break outside at Open Temple House (campers bring their own lunch)
• 1:15-2:15: Writing and Improv exercise in dance studio
• 2:15-3pm: Sharing experiences and closing circle
• 3:00-3:10 pm: Pickup outside Electric Lodge
Campers entering Kindergarten through 8th Grade.
Scholarships are available.
Campers may participate in either one or both sessions.
